Metal Gear Solid 4 Comes With 4.6GB Installation

PlayStation 3

I might seem a little enraged right now. It seems that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will include a mandatory installation of 4.6GB. What happens when Hellboy arrives? Will that require installation. What about or Silent Hill: Homecoming, will they require installations?

There are too many PLAYSTATION 3 games that require installations, I wouldn’t be surprised if many owners had no space left.

The funny thing is that I think most of us were really happy that Sony was outfitting all their systems with HDDs over Microsoft’s option to take away an option they started with the original Xbox. Now we’re actually upset about a feature we, more or less, knew was going to be used for game storage.

If the first batch of PS3 games had this install it wouldn’t be that big of a deal but now that developers realize that have this space they’re taking more advantage of it.

But for MGS I’d be willing to give up 10GB. The good news is that this game will rock regardless of how much space it needs on your HDD.

And prices are dropping on HDDs. I saw a 120GB Hitachi drive for $65 and a 200GB Toshiba drive for $95! (both from TigerDirect.com)

Please developers, if it makes your game run better use the HDD. Ideally be like Uncharted and don’t require a large install but I’d rather than than the game perform worse or take longer to load while I’m playing the game.

And this story is dumb. Running out of space? DELETE ANOTHER ONE OF THESE GAME INSTALLS YOU HATE SO MUCH THEN? So hard isn’t it! Oh no, I can’t possibly install this game again in the future! That would be PAINFUL!

Considering the size of this game on the BluRay disc alone, are you really that surprised? Besides, for a game like MGS4 it’s going to be entirely worth it. And really, there’s no harm in just deleting some stuff if you’re THAT pressed for space.

  4. I think with some games its getting a little ridiculous, but for this game I wont complain. I cant. Not for a game that is maxing much of the ps3.

Just wait till Killzone comes out lol….see what that install is like.

maybe in 1 year we wont see as much since the ps3 is still new and bluray readers and writers are slow(6x speed). but ya it is getting annoying but you can always upgrade your hard drive cheaply. I got a 250gig on mine for 125$!!

While I’m not as enraged as you Sal, this is getting ridiculous. The space isn’t a big deal for me because I don’t save any media to my HDD, I stream it all from my mac using medialink. I’ve got a 60 gig so the space of the installs isn’t an issue with me, but the fact that they keep appearing really bothers me. Why does it need to happen? If great games like COD4, Uncharted, and Resistance don’t need them than why do all these other games? Why can’t I just put the game in and play? If a “terrible” game like Ninja Gaiden Sigma can make the install optional, I’m sure Capcom, Ubisoft, Konami, etc, etc… could do the same. With the size of Blu-Ray discs and the power of the PS3, this shouldn’t be happening.
