ThreeSpeech interviewed Kaz Hirai about his step up in replacing the former Sony Computer Entertainment CEO, Ken Kutaragi, and the departure of Phil Harrison. They also were interested in some general PLAYSTATION 3 issues that Hirai gave some insight on.

• After taking over, Hirai has repositioned the PLAYSTATION 3 as being first and foremost a videogames console. This is beginning to show its benefits and clearing any confusion among consumers.

•Positioning the PLAYSTATION 3 first and foremost a videogames console, they’ve got to back it up with some big games. Hirai said that they have put some initiatives in place to make sure they have more and more titles coming out on the PLAYSTATION 3 from both first-party studios and third-party publishers.

•Hirai is very happy with where they are today, but said he is "certainly not happy to the extent that we can just kick back. There’s a lot more stuff that need to be done."

•When asked about his policy on securing games exclusively for the PLAYSTATION 3 from third parties since Phil Harrison changed the policy towards not paying for exclusives, Hirai said that this is an issue they can "re-evaluate". It's also a hard decision for the developers, but if it’s not exclusive they need to find ways to make the game more compelling for the consumers on the PS3 (extra content, levels, etc).

•When asked about the next age of gaming being diskless, Hirai says that discs are the media that will last a long time and be around. Broadband just doesn't have the infrastructure to support large downloads, especially in a number of countries with slow speeds anytime soon.
