PS3 Trophies Will Not Be Backwards Compatible

Unfortunately, the upcoming PLAYSTATION 3 trophies will not be backwards compatible wtih your old game saves. If your games get applied with trophy patches, then your going to have to beat your game once more to get the trophies you deserve. Reason being is that you can just go on a site such as GameFAQs and download saves and earn your trophies like that. Smart move Sony.

    The fact that the trophies are not retroactive is pretty dumb, You could easily just link a game save to your ID and use that as protection against cheating. People aren’t going to want to play long games over like GTA4 or Metal Gear just for trophies. I think with a little bit of foresight they could have figured that out easy.

    That would be cool. Sony did mention that they planned on different features for their achievement system making it more substantial than XBL. Sure bragging rights is cool and all but if you really want to get people to play games to earn trophies you entice them through their wallet.

    What about earning trophies to get special access to betas or even real world discounts to stores. Just imagine when this gets into Home. Earn trophies towards special access to videos or other spaces.

    The possibilities are endless.

    Wow, I’m actually getting more excited about this and just think, we’ll have it Wednesday!!! Super Stardust here I come!!! I might even download Pain… maybe.

    Bugger, I’ve just finished the story mode on GTA-IV. Never mind it is the ONLY option, at least it’s fair.

    Guess I’ll wait to start MGS4.

    I wish I had something intelligent to say but I can see where this sucks for gamers but might be the only choice for Sony.

    On the one hand you have millions of gamers that have already played through games (some several times) and don’t want to have to endure it again but in many ways isn’t that what earning trophies is all about?

    People play games over and over again on the 360 just to pad their achievement point totals and they’re willing to do what it takes to get those extra bragging rights.

    The good news is that this is just the growing stage. This time next year this won’t even be an issue. Similar to how we’ve gone almost 2 years without this feature or in-game XMB we’ll forget about the growing pains of trying to earn trophies on games we’ve already played.

    does that mean trading game saves for any trophy-enabled game will no longer be possible? :( that’s unfortunate, for people like me who don’t care about trophies and aren’t always very good at games…

    i have a feeling Sal is right about certain games having pre trophie support.

    i dont mind starting over. i go back and play alot of my games like uncharted and heavenly sword. i never really spent enough time with warhawk. if resistance needs to be replayed for trophies then hey, i’ve been dying to run through its campaign again.

    i’m just glad that sony thought about the glitchers and cheaters in advance.

    Warhawk already had an updated for trophy support, did it not? I think games such as Warhawk, Devil May Cry 4, and such that already have achievement systems will let you convert them to trophies. It only makes sense.

    i hope warhawk gonna be out of that smart move by sony
    and i hope call of duty gonna have the same treatment cause its gonna suck for those who put hundred hours into that

    H0rr0rist, well Warhawk uses a different system. It’s all done through online, which Trophy system is most likely using as well. Warhawk might be the exception.

    this is impossible,make no sense and completly stupid
    what do i do with my warhawk trophies?
    i have to start all over again ?
    i kept all my save game just to receive the trophy when this is release,im not going to play again all those crappy game just to have a trophy
