New Final Fantasy Exclusive for the PS3?

The latest 1UP Yours E3 2008 Podcast has some interesting rumors on a to-be announced Final Fantasy game. Near the end of the podcast, Shane states that he has been speaking to representatives from Square Enix, who have told him that “Final Fantasy XIII on 360 announcement swung the ball towards Microsoft. At Square Enix’s Japan event in 2 weeks, they will swing the ball back towards Sony”.

Is Final Fantasy VII imminent?

    In a word, yes. Seeing as it originally sold over 10 million copies on the PS1, and FFXIII is an unknown quantity, if a remake is announced as a PS3 exclusive I would consider it a given that PS3 will overtake the 360 in sales.

    What amazes me the most is how both MS and SE were able to keep the FFXIII news a secret. Even if the decision was made the day before their press conference both companies had to be in talks for at least a few days if not weeks.

    The fact that there’s a rumor circulating about something “huge” on the horizon that will “swing the ball back in Sony’s favor” doesn’t make me believe that it’ll somehow make loyal PS3 owners forget about FFXIII going “to the other side”.

    Even if it is an FFVII remake will that really be enough to satisfy the defection to the 360? Is this the proverbial olive branch SE is offering Sony to make up for FFXIII? Will it be enough? Other than greed what forced SE to make the decision? Did something happen behind the scenes between Sony and SE that forced SE to release the game on the 360 out of spite?

    These questions and more likely never to be answered.

    sadly skittles your probably right. the ”huge” announcement will be another spin off of the series. which to me would be a let down and not really a ”huge” announcement :(

    it’ll be a spin-off probably and 98% chance of it being exculsive due to nomura having a very big hand in the project.

    I do think a remake of VII is coming, but not yet. SE has been doing the remakes of the games in order for the hand held systems, and IV was just finished. VII is different as a FF game though so who knows. The announcement may not have anything to do with Final Fantasy at all. Maybe Kingdom Hearts 3?

    I think it’s going to be another spin off game, rather than an actual remake of FF7 sadly :(

    but wether its inclusive or not doesn’t bother me, i got both systems and as long as it isnt another spin off of the world FF7 ill probably get it lol
