PLAYSTATION Video Store Launches Tonight, Life With PlayStation at End of the Month
Sony Computer Entertainment have announced at their E3 2008 Press Conference that the PLAYSTATION Video Store will be launching tonight with movie companies such as Warner Bros., Fox, Lion’s Gate, Disney, MGM, and Sony Pictures all readily available.
Movie rental prices vary. It is $15 to purchase a movie, $6 to rent in HD, and $4 to rent in SD format. All movies can be transferred to the PSP and watched on the go. There is no word on whether or not a firmware update is required for the video store.
In other news, Life with PlayStation will be launching at the end of the month.

WTF is the video store update? Sony meet ball, ball meet Sony. Sony drop ball – again! WTF?! Where the hell is the video store update. Did they not say “tonight”. Is my definition of the word incorrect? This better not be a piece of shit “United States update only”.
@Tux – Life is supposedly this world map for your PS3 that will allow you to scourer the globe for weather and news articles. For example, say you were born, from, or just interested in what was going on in Tokyo, Japan this morning. Just move your cursor over to Tokyo, and you get all the daily news articles, weather, etc. Very cool, but not mind blowin’ in anyway.
@incredibilistic – I’d say MS and Sony tied as far as sucking this year. Nintendo should not have bothered unpacking their truck. Netflix also blocks Canadian traffic, unless they recently changed their policy. I haven’t tried in a while.

What the hell is “Life with Playstation”? Have I fallen under a rock in recent times and missed it, or something?

Too bad this was the biggest thing Sony had going for them.
No really big, life altering announcements that I could see. Te video store was already revealed a few weeks ago and transferring video to the PSP was made public a few days ago when the firmware update went live.
They could’ve done better if they had actual footage of God of War III or something from Team Ico. Or maybe access to the PSN Store from a PSP or allowing you to log into your PSP using your PSN ID for online games along with trophy support. That would’ve been cool.
I followed the Live Blog from Kotaku but I’ll watch it later today on G4TV. Based on the live blog I didn’t read anything that blew my socks off so I’m guessing that it was just okay. Didn’t read the Nintendo conference notes but they started the Sony blog off with comments that Nintendo’s conference was boring.
Looks like MS takes home the imaginary trophy for best showing at E3.
Either way, can’t wait to get home and start browsing the new video store. They say they’ll have new content every week. With all the studios signed on we should start seeing lots of content come down.
However, it’ll take a long, LONG time to match the content the 360 already has not to mention the Netflix deal that puts another 10,000 pieces of video content on their system. And with regular updates from Netflix it’ll be almost impossible to match content numbers unless Sony joins up with Blockbuster.
