Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty Is Standalone Coming in at 2.3GB

PlayStation 3

The upcoming PLAYSTATION Network title, Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty, will be weighing in at a massive 2.3GB as a standalone game when it releases on August 21st. That is quite big, especially with a lot of games nowadays needing a forced installation.

Hopefully Insomniac will consider boxing the game as a Blu-Ray sooner or later. We’d like the same with SIREN: Blood Curse.

    @incredibilistic – Insightful, but yes, please seek professional help. ;)

    @bunnyhero – Agreed. 2.3GB of R&C is a good thing.

    I asked the manufacturers to keep installs under 3GB and they did just that. Unfortunately this is not an install, it’s a stand alone game and that takes up HDD space. At least with MSG, DMC, and others I could delete the game/save data and free up the HDD for future games. This 2.3GB will sit on my HDD forever. (Yes I know I could delete it and download it again from the PSN for free up to 5 times. What? You think I’m an amateur? LOL.)

    How much is this 2.3GB selling for?

    If Sony released a patch that allowed you to store game saves and other information on an external drive none of this would be a big issue. I have two external USB drives (one 40GB the other 120GB). If you could stream data from it then all this space issue wouldn’t be a real factor.

    Now consider this, with all the talk about mandatory installs imagine if MS doesn’t release the next Xbox without a Blu-ray drive. Imagine having to download EVERYTHING to your HDD. That would be insane but many people truly think that digital distribution is the future. What they fail to realize is that DRM will make it almost impossible to travel with your games if necessary.

    I guess MS thinks that no one will ever need the leave the house; just stay inside all day and play with people across the globe. That’s a great feature to have but it will never replace human interaction.

    Wow, I got all that from a R&C game being 2.3GB. I might need to see a shrink.
