Sony on Firmware v3.0: “just wild speculation”

PlayStation 3

A recent rumor from a source of VG247, who seem pretty confident that their source is correct, has been called out by Sony Computer Entertainment. The rumor mentions supposed information about the PlayStation 3 firmware v3.0 update, saying it’s a “major overhaul” similar to the NXE “in some repsects.” However, Sony has commented to IGN.com regarding this rumor.

“These rumors are completely untrue, nothing has been announced or confirmed for upcoming PlayStation firmware, and this is just wild speculation,” said Jennifer Clark, director of SCEA product publicity.

The best we can hope for is that she’s covering up the fact that the knowledge is revealed.

Sony sure does have its finger on the pulse of news. That was fast!

But where there’s smoke there’s fire and with the recent news of the Playstation Cloud and now this rumored revamped XMB I think it’s only a matter of time before we’ll be talking about how all these rumors were right (or at least close to reality).

Maybe Sony’s waiting for the PS3 Slim before unveiling the new interface.
