Microsoft has officially announced today that on Friday, August 28th, the Xbox 360’s price will drop from $399 for the Elite model to $299, most likely to compete with the new PlayStation 3 slim model.

The Elite model will drop from $399 to $299 and the Pro model will drop from $299 to $249 (while supplies last, considering this model is being phased out). The Arcade model will remain at the same price of $199.

As a part of the price drop, the Elite bundle will no longer contain an HDMI cable in the box. You’ll have to buy one yourself from now on.

It’s a tie race now. Who will sell the most the first week of the price cut? We can only wait an see.
