PS2 games that should be ported to blu-ray for PS3

ps2-ps3_top

With the recent announcement that God of War and God of War II are coming to blu-ray disc as the God of War Collection, bringing trophies and 720p HD graphics alongside it, you can’t help but feel as if there are other games that should follow God of War in this console-shift. With so many sequels on the horizon, a lot of gamers may have not gotten the chance to play their PS2 beginnings, and this could be the perfect opportunity.

Team Ico is known to have released two of the greatest games on the PS2, both part of a series of games from Fumito Ueda, titled Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Their third game, The Last Guardian, is set to launch on PlayStation 3 sometime in 2010. Releasing a ‘Team Ico Collection’ would be a great idea for Sony because it would allow current PlayStation 3 owners to try out the cult-hit PS2 games, as well as rank up some trophies in anticipation of The Last Guaridan.

There’s no doubt about it when I say that Persona 3: FES and Persona 4 where two of the PS2’s best role-playing games. Some may argue that they’re the best of them all. With the rumor mill heavy lately that Persona 5 is in development, this would make a great addition to the PS3’s line of PS2 ports.

On top of that, both Persona games mentioned were released on the PS2 in it’s late years just as the PlayStation 3 released. A lot of gamers may have not had a chance to get around to it with the start of the current generation going. This would be a great re-release, and once again, trophies are always welcome.

Even if they don’t release a Kingdom Hearts III (which would break my heart), a ‘Kingdom Hearts Collection’ seems to be in order, bundling Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II and possibly Kingdom Hearts: RE: Chain of Memories as well.

The reason for this, not only did the game change the way we think about action-RPGs, but it combined the franchises of Disney and Square Enix and mashed them together in one game and it actually worked. The series had a huge impact on the PS2, as well. I would gladly replay these games were they to be released on the PlayStation 3.

ps2-ps3_final-fantasy-collectionFinal Fantasy Collection

This one’s hard. It’d be nice to bundle Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2 and Final Fantasy XII into one collection, but I’m not sure I see Square Enix doing it. However, that’s what would be ideal for us in this article. I don’t think I need any reasoning behind this, but to make it short and simple, Final Fantasy X was and still is one of the greatest Final Fantasy games to be released, and the other two, which do not appeal as much to me as X, are just as critically acclaimed.

With the upcoming release of Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy Versus XIII (whenever we get new information on it), this would make a highly suitable collection.

Other Notable Additions

We would go on to include series like Metal Gear Solid and Devil May Cry, but these have already received full collection releases on the PS2. Although, it would be nice to replay the whole Metal Gear Solid series on PS3.

kingdom hearts collection would be good upscaled to 720p of course , and also GTA vice city or GTA 3 all of them where monumental games on ps2. But then again they might not need disc copys to distrubute them on ps3 ,Sony might suprise us all with working out some emulation and put them on the ps store.

A Team ICO bundle would be great especially reformatted to (at least) 720p so it fills the screen so you can appreciate the scale of both of those games.

Why not an SSX package too? I still boot up SSX 3 every now and again but the games got stupid when they got away from the colorful characters and made the main character the player.

  5. Well I’d definately buy a Persona one, seeing as I’ve never played any of those games, and have always wanted to.

I think Metal Gear would make a great collection, as the storyline’s follow on from one another and many people would, after playing MGS4, like to see the other games if they haven’t already.

Personally speaking too, I’d like to see a Resident Evil and Silent Hill collection (there was an SH Collection released on PS2 in 2006 actually), and of course Final Fantasy.

Team Ico, Kingdom hearts and Metal gear solid ports would be fricken great. Can’t think of any other really. Maybe a GTA one but I could never see it happening.
