The Call of Duty series has been handled by two, excellent developers over the past two years: Infinity Ward and Treyarch. However, if an LA Times report is to be believed, Activision has a new, third team working on the popular shooter series as well.

As Activision seems to be discovering this year with Guitar Hero, there’s danger when a title is overexposed with too many iterations. Nonetheless, the publisher has aggressive expansion plans for Call of Duty. Although Infinity Ward and Treyarch have produced sequels in alternating years since 2005, the publisher now has a third development studio working on future versions.

Treyarch seems to handle World War II pretty good and Infinity Ward has got that Modern Warfare down. It’d be nice to see the Call of Duty series evolve into “future warfare”.

  1. When does Call of Duty cease really being Call of Duty?
