Update: Downloads are failing everywhere, including mine. Stick with a PC update if you’re doing it tonight. Download it here.

Original: Sony Computer Entertainment has released the firmware version 3.10 update on PlayStation 3 tonight. The update adds Facebook status update integration, the ability to change your gamer profile color and an easier way to organize your photos.

I’m downloading as I write this. I’ll update the post if there’s any hidden new features.

I lied. Tried out the purchases just to see how it works. The good news is that it does actually ask you if you want to share this purchase or not so it’s cool. Nice to see the application bar at the top of the browser although the browser is still slow as sap in winter.

Tried to access my photo gallery. It never came up. Sony should think about a memory booster ala’ Windows Vista. Pop a memory stick in the front and allow the system to use that memory to boost performance.

    I can dream can’t I?

Okay. I downloaded it. Noticed that the new picture view is only for pictures on your HDD. When browsing pictures on my PC I noticed they were still in the normal list form with no thumbnails (but then again they didn’t show up before so I guess I shouldn’t expect anything different).

Like the new friends list and I guess the color change is okay. Mine’s blue now… yippee.

Decided not to share my purchase information but sharing my trophy info. If I’m going to buy an episode of 30 Rock (something I’ve done a couple times already) I don’t really want that shared with everyone when I do it. In the grand scheme of things it’s not a big deal but I guess I’d just assume keep my purchases to yours truly.

Oops. Forgot to try the new browser that’s supposedly better suited to handle FB. I’ll try it again tomorrow. Otherwise I guess it’s a solid update. Seems like they could’ve squeezed more in there but, as always, baby steps.

I’d also like to see more choices in categorizing my videos and games other than just import date or title. How about a group for TV shows, Pulse episodes (why I keep them is beyond me but I have like 2 months worth of those things), movies, etc. And all I want is the CHOICE to do it.

  3. The friends list is much better than before and thats all I care about.
