Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition is coming to North America in downloadable form, Capcom has announced today. If you recall, Capcom held a poll last month to see whether consumers would rather purchase a whole new disc or receive the content in downloadable form. The polls closed in at nearly 1500 people voting for downloadable content while over 900 for a new physical product.

Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition lets players go back in time to an earlier Chris and play through a few hours of the game alongside Jill Valeintine. The PlayStation 3 version of the content adds support for Sony’s motion controller, as well.

The downloadable content will release on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in Spring 2010. You’ll need your Resident Evil 5 discs to play it, so don’t get rid of them just yet.
