HK PlayStation Store gets Premium Avatars

Update: Euro update is out. Also contains LittleBigPlanet Premium Avatars — fourteen to be exact.

Original: In a surprising turn of events, it looks like Sony is taking today to finally release Premium Avatars on the PlayStation Store. This week’s update is happening early in light of the holidays and the Hong Kong update has already rolled out, bringing along Premium Avatars with it.

For $8.00HKD (approx. $1.00 USD), gamers can download this pack of four LittleBigPlanet Premium Avatars (pictured above).

While great and all for Hong Kong, we’re hoping Sony chooses today to release Premium Avatars in both North America and Europe, as well. Hopefully, they’ll release several packs, as everyone is going to have the same set of avatars if they only decide to release one.

Thanks, Benedict.

They’re probably crying victory over at IGN but I recently read an article from one of the editors who talked about how a previous rant and rave he posted to the site got actual attention from Sony. So he decided to use his powers for good and wrote a scathing letter to Sony about avatars.

Apparently there are only 223 avatars available on the PSN which is just inexcusable. The fact that it’s been 3 years and they’ve barely updated the current list is even more insane.

I just hope they don’t cost more than $1 buck when they debut in the states. I’m almost okay with $1.99 but anything more and they’re crazy especially when the avatar doesn’t do anything. It’s like buying a bumper sticker for your PS3.

Maybe Sony will give you free access to all the avatars if you sign up for their upcoming subscription.

    • This will most likely hit the US update today, too. The only thing is, they released only one set of avatars from only one game. EVERYBODY on my friends list is going to have an LBP avatar after today.

Why couldn’t they release several packs based off several different games? Then next week do the same?
