We buy games for sixty dollars on a bi-weekly basis (hopefully, it’s a bigger gap than that, 2010 is just hard to resist), but ever wonder how much that game you’re buying cost to build in the first place? Some games, like Grand Theft Auto IV, have went a bit over the top with their production budgets.
Grand Theft Auto IV is actually the most expensive video game created, costing $100 million to develop. The development team consisted of 1,000 people working for over three and a half years.
Sony’s Gran Turismo 5 trails in second at $80 million, with SEGA’s Shenmue following third at $70 million. Shenmue was an odd case since it was a SEGA Dreamcast game, but the budget went into the game’s vast environment, weather system, and other features you wouldn’t even see in games today.

Hmm. I like hear that games are made with this level of proffesional development and big $$$, but I cant help but feel very underwhelmed at GTAIV been the winner of this ‘most expensive’ category.
The game, to me, felt distinctly basic and in no way bearing the feeling of a $100,000000 production. Strange.
