Speaking in an interview in this week’s Famitsu, Final Fantasy Versus XIII director Tetsuya Nomura has said that the game may not make it to E3 due to changes made on world map.

Originally, the game’s world map was made to show a little Noctis running around. Nomura describes it as similar to FF*, intentionally added the asterisk to block out the number. I think VII would fit well in this case.

However, Nomura and the team thought the map was a bit lacking, so it was changed up to be more like FF*’s world map. This time we can’t assume which Final Fantasy he’s talking about.

Nomura has previously said that Final Fantasy Versus XIII would be at E3 if the team were “quick enough” on development. However, due to these changes in the map, Nomura is unsure of whether or not development has progressed enough to be shown at the gaming expo.

Other than that, development is going well — Nomura confirmed. However, he says there’s a lot more work to be done.

Looks like we’ll see come E3, won’t we?

Thanks, FF-Reunion (via FF-XIII.net).

  1. I think we all already know why they’re making changes to the original world map structure and such, gotta accommodate the game structure so it fit’s on multiple DVD’s easily now :D

The world map has been missing from Final Fantasy games for quite some time. I was starting to wonder when or if we would ever navigate one again, maybe now i have my answer.

I’m glad the development is going great, and the world map thing makes things even better. :D
