In a recent chat with Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Motomu Toriyama, the two say that they would be very much interested in creating a sequel to the recently released Final Fantasy XIII.
So will there be a Final Fantasy XIII-2?
The two men answered: “That depends on how well the game sells in the West!”
“In the past three years we worked both on the world and on the various systems. Creating these systems isn’t very glamorous and can frankly be a bit boring. If we could do a XIII-2, we could direct all our attention to the story and refine what we have already built.”
They also touched on the game’s nontraditional approach.
“We hope [players] will be engaged by the graphics and the story. We realize this means some of our fans, who like the more traditional games, might be disappointed in some ways. But we hope they will take this journey with us. If we keep creating traditional games, we stand still, and we want to make steps forward.”
Honestly, playing more and more into it — the battle system is great, and while I’m enjoying the story, it feels like it’s being forced on me as I’ve yet to see any free means of exploration. Still loving the game, though. I’m on Chapter 7 at the moment. Let’s hope we get some exploration soon.

The ending was to happy to be a FFXIII-2, Orphan, Falcie are destroyed? You got no focus that means no magic….

Cheers to SE, now they gonna took what they left out from FFXIII. SE put you efforts in the making of a FF tittle like evereybody wants, a FF with towns, a FF with worldmap, a FF with endless NPCs, a FF turn based with the ATB system.
Im very greatfull because they try to innovate, its great but innovation do not mean make worst games, and took out what we (fans) love of the series.
Im dont want more excuses, im almos losing the faith in SE, FFXIII its a great game, but doesnt deserve to be called FFXIII, like a spin-off will be great.

Yoshinorri San, seems to be interested in taking the game further – if the interest is there financially. This is a cautious approach in the light of what has transpired with a lot of monetary deals that have collapsed recently. I would dearly love to see a sequel and for my part have bought the game and the Limited (Numbered) Edition of the beautiful Final Fantasy XIII Guide that accompanies the game. Previous books by Piggyback for the Final Fantasy edition have been excellent including the gold blocked, feaux-leather-covered Limited Edition Guide for Final Fantasy XII I have here at home. Vaan

He made an interesting point – with the engine and everything ready, they could focus on story. Im up for it, definitely :)

FFXIII has impressed me heaps so far and i really hope they do make a XIII-2, but Versus XIII will be next so we might be waiting awhile. I’ll wait for anything Square Enix creates cause when it does get released i know it will be an epic experiance.

Same here, a XIII-2 would be great!
and I know what you mean by the forced story. At times I feel the same way, but it seems to be loosening up a lot.. I am currently in Chapter 10 and I have heard it really opens up and becomes less linear in Chapter 11.

I am in a certan location now that has completely stopped the linear feeling. When you reach this certain place you will come to relise just how big FFXIII is. I’m 49 hours in so far and loving the hell out of it.
