Rumor: PS3 Update To Bring PS2 Backwards Compatibility?

French Gaming website JV247 reports that Sony Computer Entertainment shared some information regarding an upcoming PS2 Emulator for the PlayStation 3 with them.
Apparently, they were told that Sony would update the PlayStation 3's firmware with the functionality to play PlayStation 2 games if they decided to sell PlayStation 2 games on the PlayStation Store.

Elixor, community team leader on the official European PlayStation boards, has confirmed that the v2.50 update for the PlayStation 3 will hit tomorrow, October 15th.

A source has told CVG that the next firmware update for the PLAYSTATION 3 will include the ability to capture screenshots of your gaming.

Eric Lempel, Director of PLAYSTATION Network Operations, has updated us on the PlayStation.Blog alerting us that firmware update v.2.42 is now available for download.
He says that the update improves the playback quality of some PLAYSTATION 3 and PlayStation format software. We've also been tipped that it improves trophy loading times.

Looks as if the rumors were true, and a day early. A small number of people faced some problems in the v2.40 update which was pulled off the servers last week. So Sony have corrected the problems and have released v2.41.
